MCM (Molecular Collision Model)
Het MCM project formuleert een nieuw model van geavanceerde mens-machine interactie in een audiovisuele omgeving. Interactie bestaat hier als een reciproque proces van mutuele beïnvloeding, in tegenstelling tot controle via expliciete instructies. De autonome activiteit in MCM volgt uit de expressie van een eigen, interne fysische wetmatigheid. Het programma benut het beeld van 'botsende moleculen' als een principieel uitgangspunt. De interactie tussen de moleculen onderling verloopt volgens eenvoudige, lokale spelregels. Het globaal resultaat is evenwel emergente complexiteit; het systeem genereert onverwacht interessante structuren in tijd en ruimte. Deze structuren worden vertaald in muziek in real-time. De autonome activiteit in het systeem kan beïnvloed worden door spontane lichaamstaal van de mens (captatie via sensoren). Het eindresultaat is een adaptieve, quasi-levende interactieve installatie.

Phaser/Sleeper/Whisper
How do we perceive sound? How does our brain (re)construct waves captured by our ears? Is what we hear really what's being sent out? "Phaser/Sleeper/Whisper" is a sound installation in three parts, dealing with shifting perceptions and spatial notions of sound. "Phaser" presents modulated frequencies, traveling around while changing pitch, affecting each other in the process. The listener's perception is tricked through techniques such as phase cancellation and a quad speaker setup.
"Sleeper" and "Whisper" both play on shifting human voices, slowly coming together to form a strange, unnatural language. Here also, spatial sound design adds an element of trickery. The setup of "Phaser/Sleeper/Whisper" requires a dark and isolated room. No visuals are used - no light is present.

The legendary Stockhausen piece, composed for the German pavilion at the Osaka '70 EXPO, reinterpreted by Arne Deforce on Cellotron, a midi interface on a deconstructed cello, and electronic sound by Eavesdropper. The spatialized sound on an 8 speaker system, mixed by CRFMW, also serves as a modulator for the video signal that is being generated by a dual MX50 setup with source noise feedback.
