Zijn werk is een reflectie op de grammatica van cinema en de relatie tussen beeldende kunst en de filmervaring. Het werk bevindt zich op de scherpe lijn tussen dualiteiten en balanceert tussen het groteske en het ontroerende, schoonheid en wreedheid, het emotionele en het intellectuele. Keer op keer lokken zijn fantasmagorieën zowel herkenning als vervreemding uit, en door het manipuleren van tijd, codes en vorm wordt de cinematografische en narratieve taal geanalyseerd, worden accenten verschoven en nieuwe verhalen verteld.
Nicolas Provost schreef en regisseerde korte en middellange films en werkt nu aan een eerste langspeelfilm, 'The Invader', een scoiale thriller over een anti-heroïsche illegale immigrant en zijn economische en emotionele overlevingsstrijd in de nieuwe wereld.
