Lieven de Boeck is een kunstenaar van wie het werk zich op twee niveaus tegelijk ontwikkelt. Enerzijds maakt hij observaties over de publieke ruimte die zowel onze dagelijkse realiteit als de context van om het even welke kunstpraktijk definieert. Anderzijds concentreert hij zich op zijn alles omvattend project, namelijk 'the dictionary of space'. Dit woordenboek formuleert concepten met betrekking tot architecturale thema's zoals bezetting, toe-eigening, grenzen, territoriums, representatie en identiteit. 'Dictionary of space' heeft zich in verschillende contexten ontwikkeld gaande van tussenkomsten in tijdschriften, publicaties, performances en teksten tot tekeningen, modellen, installaties en video.
