Leen Voet manipulates the images she makes as if they were autonomous signs, so that their accumulation produces the illusion of a plurality of voices. Her representation of landscape is envisaged with - and within - the same artificiality. Her subject is the landscape genre as such, with its modes of rendering and its stereotypes.

Flattened by photographic reproduction and narratised by sequential projection, these inflections comply with all the constraints of the genre (including the figurative requirement of resemblance) and express the idea that landscape is never, a priori, the place of direct questioning. We do not ask questions about the veracity of a landscape description; there would be no point, since none of the actual landscape appears in our representation of it.
