Frederik de Wilde wins Best Collaboration Award 2011

Last year an international panel of experts granted the Best Collaboration Award for the first time. The first BCA 2010 was designed to reward the best example of collaboration between partners from the creative industries sector and another from a more traditional industry focussing on innovative practices beyond traditional business relationships as well as alliances with exceptional results.

Five international co-operations from the field of creative industries, science and scientific research were granted awards for successful collaboration within the framework of the international conference "How does it work? Creative Industries meet Science". This year's award was granted for the outstanding co-operation between companies from the creative industries, science and scientific research.

The Belgian artist Frederik de Wilde was granted the first prize and accepted the award made according to his own ideas and patterns by Rapid Prototyping Zentrum in Bremen - also on behalf of his project-partner Ajayan Pulickel from the Rice University in Houston, Texas. It is a unique piece honouring the project THE BLACKEST BLACK ARTWORK and characterizing the cooperation between art and research as outright winner.

Frederik De Wilde acts on the border area between science, technology and art. The conceptual crux of his artistic praxis are the notions of the intangible, inaudible, invisible. It is this interstitial territory that Frederik De Wilde explores in his various works. Sometimes on the side of the technological, and often in the perceptual, conceptual, social–human–register, De Wilde's art is grounded in the interaction between complex systems, both biological and technological. Moreover, the indistinct, diffuse, 'fuzzy' arena where the biological and the technological overlap and commingle is a productive and favored ground for his projects/ projections.
