Touched, the International exhibition for the 6th Liverpool Biennial, International Festival of Contemporary Art, presents art concerned with emotion: art that moves us in mind, body and soul. The curatorial team for Touched has investigated materiality, metaphor, duration, embodiment, family, narrative, separation, desire, attachment, craft, compulsion, viscerality, neurosis and, especially, emplacement. Liverpool Biennial is one of the largest and most exciting contemporary visual arts events in the UK.
Wannes Goetschalckx will show a new commission for Touched and Kris Martin will present existing work not seen before in the UK. During the pre-opening event in May 2010, Filip Gilissen performed 'The Winner Takes It All' and 'The Best Is Yet To Come' in a one night tribute to Felix Gonzalez-Torres. For videos of the event, have a look on his website www.filipgilissen.com.
The curatorial team for Touched is Lorenzo Fusi, Liverpool Biennial (non-gallery sites), Peter Gorschlüter (Tate Liverpool), Patrick Henry (Open Eye Gallery), Sara-Jayne Parsons (the Bluecoat), Mike Stubbs (FACT – Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) and Mark Waugh (A Foundation Liverpool).
