Each year, BAM collaborates with the Mondriaan Foundation and the Prince Claus Fund for the organization of an orientation trip for Flemish, Dutch and foreign art professionals. During two weeks artists and curators explore the art scene in foreign countries on other continents.

The annual orientation trip wants to familiarise European and international art professionals with the art and culture of Asia, Latin America and Africa. Participants will get insight into the artistic developments of less-known but interesting regions, make new contacts, and have the opportunity to develop new ideas and initiatives by learning from different cultural perceptions. The purpose of the trip is to create opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and ideas, to strengthen international networks as well as to stimulate international cooperative projects.

The overall aims of the trips are:

  • to provide information about the contemporary arts scene in the visited countries;
  • to contribute to a better understanding of different cultures
  • to enable the interaction between professionals from cultural institutions here and abroad;
  • to create a (multi-disciplinary) network for future collaborations between all parties involved;
  • to offer a platform for intercultural debate;
  • to increase the level of dialogue and communication through future joint ventures.
