Afterall journal provides a forum for the critical discussion of contemporary art practice. The journal presents in-depth analyses of artists' work, along with essays that broaden the context in which to consider it. Grounded in a process of research and review, the editorial team seeks to develop an account of contemporary art that encompasses interdisciplinary forms that press on the limits of art's definition, social practices that question the political efficacy of art, as well as the individual investigations into material and form more often acknowledged in the market.
The journal is co-published by Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, London, and
the School of Art at the California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles.

From autumn 2007, Afterall incorporates AS, a journal of visual culture previously published by MuHKA, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp. Thanks to MuHKA's support, Afterall is now published three times a year.
