Auguste Orts vzw

bio

'Auguste Orts' is founded by four artists. A small production platform with the experience it takes to conceive, start and execute art projects in between genres and formats. Ergo: "films", at the crossroads of cinema, video, visual arts, documentaries, experimental films....
Multimedia? Interdisciplinary? Vague and fashionable terms for what is evidence itself. More often than ever before we (and many others) work where media and disciplines cross-fertilize each other. Therefore, Auguste Orts prefers ideas and sensitivities to genres and techniques. A preference also for self-organization: artistic creation is the engine that drives the workings of our non-profit-making organization.
Precisely because our films and videos and installations and books and websites are difficult to classify they risk to fall between two stools. Nobody is better placed than the artists themselves to create the appropriate context(s) for their work. That's why Auguste Orts operates in the broad field of audiovisual production.

Auguste Orts is:

Herman Asselberghs
Sven Augustijnen
Manon de Boer
Anouk De Clercq
+
Marie Logie (coordinator)

Auguste Orts is artist in residence at Brussels' arts centre Beursschouwburg.

Building

Shafts of light and the camera are moving through the dark as in a glissando. Flat, sharply cut forms appear in black-and-white and high definition. They feel their way along expanses of wall, opening up storeys, windows and doors, and break down on floors, stairs and columns. In this way, according to a controlled choreography upheld by the music of Anton Aeki, a truly architectural experience is created on the screen. Like a constructivist audiovisual mobile, the building reveals itself and is being documented as in an architect's dream. In other words: as a spatial and atmospheric starting point for users to start leaving their marks on it. "Building" is inspired by the new concerthall in Bruges and thereby also pays homage to the work of Robbrecht&Daem, the Belgian architects' collective which is well known for such exploits as the new Boijmans Van Beuningen museum in Rotterdam and the Aue-pavilions for Documenta IX in Kassel.

Panorama

Extra bijlage bij De Tijd van Sven Augustijnen

The newspaper supplement PANORAMA was produced in the context of the exhibition INFORMATION/TRANSFORMATION at the centre for contemporary art Extra City in Antwerp. It appeared as an extra supplement to the Belgian financial daily newspaper DE TIJD.

On October 8th in that same newspaper, an advertisement with the heading "How Brussels Hijacked Europe" announced the appearance of that supplement. This announcement turned out to be the omen for yet another hijacking: the editorial team of DE TIJD and its readers ascertained on the 12th of October that their trusted newspaper contained the extra PANORAMA supplement, unbeknownst to the editorial team.
