CCNOA
bio
CCNOA, Center for Contemporary Non-Objective Art, was founded in 1998. An international nonprofit organization, CCNOA plays a vital role among visual arts and sound art organizations nationally and internationally. This is achieved by initiating, supporting, and presenting art projects in the field of contemporary non-objective art, architecture, audio and audio-visual media (www.earwitness.de.vu) and by serving as a site for discussions on interdisciplinary art and criticism. Since its inception, CCNOA has presented more then 60 solo and group exhibitions featuring over 150 artists from around the world. Located in the city centre of Brussels, this 200 square meters exhibition space was founded by Petra Bungert, former Head of Administration at New York's P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center and Director of the New York-based Petra Bungert Gallery (1995-1997).

Marc Ruyters, Eva Wittocx, 2008Among the modern-art crowd, Belgium is known as the country with that 'surrealist' lineage: James Ensor - René Magritte - Marcel Broodthaers. While this is certainly a fine compliment for three artists of far-reaching significance, a great deal has changed in this country, which has been a crossroads of the Roman and Germanic cultures, a key logistic point between Great Britain, Germany and France, and home to the European Community.
