The Picnic

'The picnic' is the title of Paul Casaer's series of eight photographs. It shows a group of asian girls moving about a wide, open landscape rich with palms and reed-like grass. Each of the girls is dressed in the same manner, as if in a uniform and stands out klaarlig from the lush greens of the trees and meadows. Just as in his other recent works Paul Casaer deliberately leaves us in entertainty as to whether this is a real situation, or one he has staged. Set within this field of tension between reality and fiction, the scenario remains impenetrable and mysterious. In the end it is up to the viewers to invent their own story from the host of allusions he offers...
