ARTS FLANDERS 08: VISUAL ARTS
01/01/2008 BAM
Flemish Minister for Culture Bert Anciaux has launched ARTS FLANDERS 08, an international promotion campaign for about 150 artists, ensembles or companies from the different artistic disciplines: architecture, audio-visual arts, plastic arts, music and performing arts. Five publications and related DVDs or CD-ROMs each provide an exciting sample of old names and young talent. For each discipline, the recent trends are discussed as well.
ARTS FLANDERS 08: VISUAL ARTS
Since the mid-90s, Flanders has seen a remarkable rise and flourishing of contemporary plastic arts. Many artists, among whom Luc Tuymans, Wim Delvoye, Jan Fabre, Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, ... settled at the international top. This growth can mainly be attributed to the passion and entrepreneurial spirit of both artists and organisations and museums. For the overview book, the BAM centre of expertise, Institute for Plastic, Audio-visual and Media arts, made a representative selection of the emerging generation of plastic arts in Flanders. A lot of surprising work by artists with great potential.
Included artists: Agency, Sven Augustijnen, Orla Barry, Charif Behelima, Manon De Boer, Koen Van Den Broek, Wim Catrysse, David Claerbout, Anne Daems, Lieven De Boeck, Anouk De Clercq, Stefaan Dheedene, Nico Dockx, Christoph Fink, Vincent Geyskens, Tina Gillen, Geert Goiris, Jos De Gruyter & Harald Thys, Jan Kempenaers, Ives Maes, Valerie Mannaerts, Kris Martin, Sophie Nys, Hans Op De Beeck, Els Opsomer, Gert Robijns, Peter Rogiers, Ana Torfs, Michael Van Den Abeele, Patrick Vanden Eynde, Gert Verhoeven, Angelo Vermeulen, Heidi Voet
