This year, the Flemish Culture Prize for Visual Arts goes to the team of Jos De Gruyter & Harad Thys, whose work includes performances, videos and installations. The pair, the prize jury said, "have a sharp eye for the banal and the absurd" while "the universe they have created shows great sensitivity to the world as a whole." The prize includes €12,500 and an artwork by the Belgian sculptor Johan Tahon.

"Art can and must sometimes be uncomfortable and obstinate" said Flemish minister for Culture Joke Schauvlieghe, when handing the prize to the laureates during the ceremony that took place on Wednesday 5th October at Museum M in Leuven.
