Madly in Love to compete at Cuenca
07/12/2010
Hilde Van Mieghem's new feature Madly in Love has been selected for this year's Cuenca Women in Direction International Film Festival in Spain (22-27 November) where it will be presented in official competition.
A romantic comedy, Madly in Love focuses on the turbulent lives of four women all living under the same roof. Teenager Eva, mum Judith, aunt Barbara and big sister Michelle are all trying to deal with the chaos in their lives caused by amorous adventures. Themes like puppy love, serial dating, unquenched lust, affairs, the desire to have children and everlasting love spice up the plot of the feature. Leading actresses are Veerle Dobbelaere, Wine Dierickx, Marie Vinck and Aline Van Hulle. Together with the likes of Koen De Bouw, Kevin Janssens, Koen De Graeve and Jan Decleir, the cast unites a lot of Flemish acting talent.
The main objective of Women in Direction is to screen and promote films of artistic quality directed by women. Madly in Love is director Van Mieghem's third feature, following The Kiss and Love Belongs To Everyone.
Beyond The Steppes, the feature debut of Vanja d'Alcantara, is also in competition. The award for Best Feature is to be decided by a jury of 50 members.
Madly in Love opened this year's Ghent Film Festival and is set for an 8 December release in Belgium. The film was scripted by Hilde Van Mieghem and Bert Scholiers. Bert Hamelinck and Frank Van Passel produced the feature for Caviar (My Queen Karo, Bo, Dirty Mind, Left Bank, S&M Judge) with support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF), among others.
