almostcinema.jpgOctober 12 - 23, 2010

This year it's the 37th edition of the Ghent Filmfestival.  There's not a main theme like some other years, but there is a special focus on Jacques Tati, the French director. There will be running an exhibition at the Caermersklooster, the festival café is turned over into Bar Tati and there's a retrospective of his work. The opening film is Madly in Love by Belgian director/actress Hilde Van Mieghem. The entire programme will soon be online:

In adition The Vooruit Arts Centre and the Ghent Film Festival join forces for Almost Cinema - from the 12th until the 23rd of October in and around Vooruit, Ghent. Cinema is more than film alone, as Almost Cinema proves every year. In this curated programme, artists from a variety of disciplines offer the audience a different take on cinema. With performances, concerts and an exhibition with surprising installations, they dissect the ordinary cinema experience as they experiment with sound, image, light, space and movement. At this edition of the Almost Cinema exhibition, the audience will be invited to explore alternative landscapes and discover instruments that manipulate the way we see things.

Participating artists: Kerstin Ergenzinger, Bram Vreven, Wim Janssen, Ief Spincemaille, Pablo Valbuena, CREW, Zimoun, Christoph Ragg & Joanna Bailie, Zach Oberzan, Stillivingrooms, Andrea Belfi & Mirco Santi, Stray Dogs & Legoman, My Little Cheap Dictaphone, a.o.
