Visitors programme

One of the main goals of BAM is to promote Flemish artists abroad. BAM invites foreign visitors (curators, critics, directors) to create international interest in the Flemish contemporary arts scene and to straighten the Flemish position in the rest of the world. The visitors are offered an individual schedule according to their personal interests, with gallery, museum and studio visits to broaden their knowledge of the Flemish art scene. This week BAM hosts the founders/curators of the Athens Biennial (Xenia Kalpaktsoglou, Poka-Yio en Augustine Zenakos) and the Italian Giusy Checola.

Xenia Kalpaktsoglou, Poka-Yio and Augustine Zenakos are the founders of the first Athens Biennial (www.athensbiennial.org ) and as a curatorial trio (XYZ) they work closely together in various projects (www.xyzprojects.org ).  Recently, they have been invited to curate a show in Antwerp in April 2009 for Error One. They visit Flanders for curatorial research both for the exposition in Antwerp and the Athens Biennial.

Giusy Checola is working for the residency program Nosadella.Due (www.nosadelladue.com ) for artists and art critics in Bologna, where she is responsible for international relations and art exchange. Therefore she wants to create a network with others residency programs to collaborate and exchange artists and critics in order to promote this international art practise in Italy. For this purpose she will visit Wiels, Air, Flacc and HISK. Additional she will meet various artists because of her work as independent curator.
