THE BLIND LEADING THE BLIND

From December 2008 onwards, a new huge dust(ed) installation by Peter Buggenhout (°1963, B), entitled 'The Blind Leading The Blind' (after the Flemish Painter Pieter Breughel The Elder), will be on view at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Herzliya (nearby Tel Aviv): we don't know where we come from and we don't know where we go to.

Analogue to his smaller formless sculptures with declassifying and abject material like intestines, dust, blood and hair, Buggenhout also makes huge, complex installations with construction waste material, plastic packaging, trash, rubbish and residues.

It will be the first time that Peter Buggenhout will show such a huge dust(ed) installation which looks like a crashed space-ship at a museumspace. As a total abstract work this non-structural object which isn't an object anymore, only refers to itself. Like in his other formless dust-sculptures and huge installation with (construction) waste material realised outside the walls of museums and galleries,  it is never clear whether this new installation stuck together and expanded, has really got started or already reached its end some time ago. The dust-sculptures express how history covers happenings and objects like a blanket and how this veil shapes them by covering up from the outside. 'In the dust sculptures the dust is piling up on top of rubbish, all in an unpredictable way. It's covering the underneath shape like a warm blanket and at the same time, it hides the view from what the primary form might have been. Knowing, not knowing, attraction, repulsion, the beauty of the light caressing the dusty skin, are the details that make you shiver: all these different emotions, thoughts, feelings, all together compressed in one small moment. In this way my sculptures and installations become analogies, not symbolic expressions'. (Peter Buggenhout)
