Projects
2007-2009
Gravital: an IWT-project on Artificial Creativity (IWT/60121, EUR 267612)
"Gravital is an environment that links language to AI to design. Like NodeBox, you will be able to create visuals using simple Python code, but also using natural language (e.g. plain English) or a slick node-based interface. It will have built-in support for lots of innovative and productive things like genetic algorithms and machine learning, data-mining, client-server architecture, social networks and version control, etc."
2007-2008
Creatures: a VAF-project on gaming (Creatures, 06/EX/096/06-295, EUR 22560)
"Creatures is an experimental project bordering between art and gaming. Insects will swarm around, plants will grow, life will virally adapt. As a player it will be your goal to keep life in balance."
2004-2006
NodeBox: research project on computer graphics at St. Lucas Antwerp
"Nodebox is developed as the core engine in a research project on design automation and artificial creativity, involving 3 teachers at St-Lucas Art College, Antwerp. How does graphic design (and communication in general) work? Is it purely subjective, a matter of personal opinion like most people think, or are there rules to be revealed?"
Group Exhibitions
2007
'Evolution project', AB+, Turin (Italy)
2006
Evolution Project: http://nodebox.net/code/index.php/Evolution
"By recombining domesticated cells, creatures are created that interact with each other in a hostile environment. Everything is procedurally generated by the computer."
Beursschouwburg, Brussels (Belgium)
2005
Champ d'Action's Time Canvas exposition: http://old.champdaction.be/cda.php?p=Blotter
"Lieven Menschaert, Frederik De Bleser and Tom De Smedt (Burocrazy) are the creative forces behind BLOTTER. For Time Canvas they worked on robots that, lead by sound, interacted with the exhibition-space."
MuHKA, Antwerp (Belgium)
